Vicky Browne began her guest lecture with an acknowledgment of the fact that the ground she was on was colonised, this is called an “Acknowledgement of country” . She described it as important “Because of our colonial history and the contested nature of the ground we are on” after this she explained that this is a common thing to do in Australia. Austrailians recognising the fact that they are working on colonised land and having this as a widespread thing prevents historical whitewashing from taking place. It shows respect towards indigenous people who have had their land stripped from them as well as amplifying indigenous voices.
