The first thing I did was identify the key sonic features of advertising that I wanted to satirise: sonic logos, emotional music, voice overs. I decided to use stock music to give the project a corporate feel, selecting from an internet library of stock music listening for ones that sounded uninspired, for the car advert I chose a house track, for the kids advert I chose a rock song entitled “rock music” and for the injury lawyer advert I chose a piano track. I designed a sonic logo based on real life sonic logos, all around five or six notes in a major key and laid it on the track over the top of the injury lawyer ad at the start, the end and twice in the middle, then added a small amount distortion and reverb to make it sound more abrasive. I then adjusted the levels of the music, bringing down the volume of the first two adverts and bringing up the volume of the piano track, boosting the low end and adding some distortion to make it sound louder, the contrast between relaxing piano music and the volume was absurd to me. After this I recorded the voiceovers separately for each advert.
