There is no mention of audio recording at all in this policy, however when me and my classmates visited the Tate with a H5 we were told to walk far away from the building. It doesn’t make sense that somebody would be able to take a picture but they cannot record film or audio, I think the unfairness is rooted in paintings being held on a pedestal as the highest form of art, the Tate allows people to take pictures of the art but not all art can be captured with a picture, films and sound pieces must be remembered too.
It is possible to film and record sound without the staff knowing/caring, using either a mobile phone or a concealed H5 and binaural microphones. If the policy isn’t going to be followed then perhaps it should be more in depth, specifying the sorts of equipment allowed and including something about recording sound.
