Lena Ortega

The lecture began with a really exciting Pauline Oliveras sound meditation in which we all sat on the literal edge of our seat with our feets planted down, felt our pulses and all tapped out the rhythm down the microphone.

Lena made it clear that she was very respectful of nature within her practice, this was already apparent in the title of her lecture “Living with more than human entities”. As she read the title she emphasised the word “with” showing to us from the very start of her lecture that she believes humans and non human entities are peers and live along side eachother, further into her lecture she showed us her work and this became more apparent through the use of field recordings of birdsong and her laying her voice alongside it and having the most predominant part of the piece shift between the human voice and birdsong.
