Background information

At the start of every lecture in the sound arts lecture series, the guest lecturer always gives a brief history of their personal backgrounds and interests including where they are from. This is important at the beginning of a talk about your work as it tells people about the places where you work and your identity which contextualises your work. Place is important as different places have different cultural, political and historical backgrounds which could influence the artist’s work. Different places also have different opportunities for work within sound arts which help to shape an artist’s identity These differences result in having different inspirations for artists in different places, these different inspirations are often what can shape an artists interest. It is necessary to discuss these at the start of a lecture about your work as this is what contextualises it.
