I find sound to be the most striking sense, it is unavoidable. The fact that I can choose to open my ears and listen to more shows to me that sound is one of the more delicate senses. “Music is thus ‘condemned to meaning’, whatever the intentions of the creator” (Adorno’s Aesthetics of Music, Max Paddison) is a philosophy I’d like to take into my practice. The idea that every sound has a story and that if you showed a group of people the same sound they would all have different ideas and thoughts about it depending on their own experiences fascinates me. I think that the sound of candid humans is “condemned to meaning” more so than other sounds, so I would like to include these sounds in my work. I would like to make compositions sampling and manipulating these sounds which is where my initial interest in sound arts stemmed from. Since this initial interest I have become interested in other areas within sound arts, I have looked into the industrial music and noise music that I listened to in my early teens like Metal machine music by Lou Reed, this was my introduction to this sort of music however since my tastes have developed to include way more.
