TATE

Oswaldo Maciá’s Something Going On Above My Head is set up in a larger room in the tate, it had 16 speakers set up spanning round corners with huge scores painted onto the walls, hearing over 2000 birdsongs from over the world that Oswaldo had collected over five years slightly distorted through the speakers was moving. It made me think about the journey that each of the birds had been on, and the archival journey that Oswaldo went on finding each of the sounds.

I found the space to be very distracting, TATE modern employees spoke over the piece and the general public also didn’t seem to care for the piece. This is one of the first times I have seen a sound art exhibition in public and it was received as I expected, people in the gallery would walk straight through the room and chat over the piece.
